Year of Renewal 2017

Year of Renewal

The PCC of the Parish of All Saints and St Wistan's, Wigston Magna, has agreed that the year 2017 will be a Year of Renewal for the parish with the strapline "Moving Forward, Reaching Outwards".

Throughout the year we will be looking to renew the following areas of our parish life:

1. Worship

We will continue to offer God the very best that we can in worship. Whilst being faithful to our Anglo-Catholic identity and maintaining our traditional Eucharistic services and our All-Age "Saints Alive!" programme, we will also begin to re-shape worship at All Saints on the third Sunday of the Month. Our plan is to introduce a "New Fire Mass" which will be a less formal Eucharist with more contemporary music  and a Charismatic edge.

2. Prayer

We will maintain and develop the monthly Rosary Group but will also explore other forms of prayer and spirituality through a series of Quiet Days, developing new prayer groups where appropriate.

3. Pilgrimage / Retreat

We will give people the opportunity to experience a Day Pilgrimage to St Albans and a two or three day Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. We will also establish an ongoing programme of Pilgrimages and Retreats.

4. Teaching

We will hold a "Fan the Flame" Teaching Week to help people rediscover the treasures of our faith. We also hope to be a pilot parish for the new course "Resolve" (co-authored by Bishop Martyn and The Ugly Ducking Company) which will be aimed at those who attend our Christmas Services. There will be a Lent Study Group and a Confirmation Preparation Group.

5. Healing

We will further develop our monthly service of prayers for healing and wholeness and will encourage others to attend.

6. Stewardship of Time, Talents and Money

With the assistance of the diocese's Generous Giving Team, we will explore together how best we can repay God's generosity to us. A 'TRIO' funding campaign will be undertaken, and a new Fundraising Group will liaise with other community groups and businesses to put our finances on a stronger footing.

7. Mission and Outreach

We will maintain and strive to develop our "Open Church" programme, ensuring that our churches are open regularly for visitors. We will also look at how our churches and Church Room can be developed and adapted for wider community use.

We will expand our work with local Residential and Nursing Homes, conducting services at regular intervals and distributing Holy Communion to those who want it.

We will continue to work in partnership with "WIGWAM" (Wigston with a Mission) to reach out to our local community with the Good News of Jesus Christ and to make our Christian presence more visible.

8 . All Saints CofE School

We will maintain our involvement with the school through membership of the governing body, regular input by the clergy into "Collective Worship" and classroom activities and through the commmissioning of a new set of  "Stations of the Cross" to be made by the children for all Saints Church.

9. Expansion of lay ministry

We will train at least two new Pastoral Assistants and will encourage others to consider some form of accredited lay ministry. Pastoral Assistants will take an active role in visiting the sick and housebound and adminstering the sacrament to those who cannot get to church.

10. Link parish

We hope to be formally twinned with the Parish of All Saints, Redding, California. Through this link  we hope to build a  relationship of mutual support and encouragement in which we shall pray for one another, share news and possibily arrange exchange visits.
