Corona Virus

From the clergy (Updated 30th June 2020)

As Wigston Magna and South Wigston are both within the boundary of the government's renewed lockdown in Leicester, we regret that our churches are once again closed until further notice.

This means that our churches cannot be used for public worship, funerals, weddings, baptisms and private prayer (including clergy on their own).

We appreciate that this will be a disappointment, not least to those who were anticipating a return to public worship soon, but as our bishops have rightly said, "Our primary responsibility at this time is to work to stop the spread of the disease, and to devote ourselves to prayer and to pastoral care of those who are suffering."

If you have any concerns or questions or would like to discuss any other spiritual or pastoral matters, please contact one of the clergy using the contact details found below.

Meanwhile, the life of the church continues, regardless.

On the Worship Resources page you will find a number of worship resources which we hope will be of help and encouragement to you at this difficult time.

Fr Trevor and Fr Chris continue to celebrate the eucharist every Sunday at 10.00am for and on behalf of all our regular worshippers and parishes. We invite you to join with us in spirit at that time by using the Sermon, Collect and Readings for the day and using the ‘Spiritual Communion’ resource which can be found on the Worship resources page. There will also be a link to a recorded Eucharist from St Thomas’ at around lunchtime each Sunday.

Morning and Evening Prayer continues to be said Monday to Friday at 9.00am and 5.00pm respectively by the clergy and some of our church members using the on-line ‘app’ ZOOM. Anyone with internet access is welcome to join us. For further information on how to do so, please contact Fr Chris.

We continue to be available to offer support via telephone and email whenever that may be helpful and we will keep you updated with further information as and when we’re able to.

Updated information will be made regularly available through:

Facebook: ‘The Wigston Benefice’

and our e-mailing list. To sign up visit: tinyletter.com/stthomas-sw
