Corona Virus

From the clergy (Updated 24th March 2020)

Dear all,

You will by now have heard that in the light of government advice regarding ‘Coronavirus’ the Archbishops have called for public worship to be suspended and  for all church buildings to be closed (even for private prayer). This is an unprecedented step but underlines the severity of the situation. Furthermore, it will challenge each of us to think about how we continue to worship God and to be the Church, even if we cannot gather together as a congregation.

We have been putting together some resources which you can find on the ‘Worship Resources’ page on the Benefice website. We are also creating some print copies for those who don’t have access to online resources. We plan to update and add to these recources as frequently as possible.

Meanwhile, and going forward:

Fr Trevor and Fr Chris are no longer permitted to meet in church to say morning and evening prayer, but they will continue to do so privately at home Monday to Friday at 9.00am and 5.00pm.  We encourage you to pause and join in from wherever you may be, even if it’s just to say the Lord’s Prayer. Nor are we now permitted to meet in church to celebrate Mass.  When possible we will say Mass  for and on behalf of the benefice in our homes at the usual  time of 10.00am on Sunday. Although sadly we cannot invite you to share in this in the customary way, we very much encourage you to pause and continue the pattern and habit of worship at that time, from wherever you may be.

We will both be available to offer support via telephone and email whenever that may be helpful and we will keep you updated with further information as and when we’re able to.

Where possible, contact will also be maintained through:

the website,

Facebook: ‘The Wigston Benefice’
